ECODESIGN
Designed to deliver the highest
technical performance, we believe that technical ski performance alone is not
enough; thinking ahead, products need to be designed in an ecological way in
order to help build a sustainable world.
Grown is the pioneer in sustainable
ski production with the first eco-designed skis on the market in 2008, setting
the benchmark in the ski industry.

We sell the first ski with its individual environmental footprint calculation communicated as the carbon footprint in grams per cubic centimeter volume of ski - with this figure we set the benchmark for the ski industry to deliver a transparent figure for customers to compare products by their environmental performance.
Grown skis are mostly made out of wood - from sustainable forest management in European forests.
Our skis use reinforcing fibres from volcanic basalt, eliminating conventionally used glass fibres and carbon fibres that embody considerably more primary energy and emissions.
Eliminating
most non-natural materials such as the plastic top sheet, the side walls and
aluminum sheets, exchanging glass and carbon with basalt fibres, using
a recycled base, testing resins based on plant starch, implementing a virtual development process and optimizing the
production make Grown skis the most environmentally friendly skis on the market.

Grown received the first eco design award of the world's major sporting goods industry fair ISPO in 2008.

With a climate footprint expressed as global warming potential (GWP) per pair of skis (model Outgrown in 176cm from season 2009/10) of about 32.8kg carbon dioxide emission equivalents (CO2eq) our skis are 30-35% more eco-friendly than conventionally produced skis with a comparable high quality, performance and volume.
The
remaining CO2eq is offset/compensated in European climate protection projects with the non-profit organization myclimate. Grown
skis are thus the first carbon neutral skis on the market.
We are constantly seeking to
further reduce our environmental footprint. Research and development in
alternative natural fibres and glues will hopefully lead to better
recycle-ability in the future and further lower the our environmental footprint.

Grown skis are the first climate neutral skis on the market, where the remainder of the carbon footprint has been offset with climate protection projects in Europe. |
